Lachlan James

Principal of New Ventures

Lachlan has a broad background spanning venture capital, entrepreneurship, renewable energy, finance and government policy. He was Investment Manager with Sydney-based venture firm, Innovation Capital where he led all aspects of the venture process, including deal origination, structuring, negotiations, active investee management, and capital and fund raising, and investing in companies such as wind development company, Windlab. He was head of commercialisation for Australia’s leading ICT research organisation in Queensland, and has been a commercial adviser and mentor to a broad range of companies including battery storage company, Reposit Power. Most recently, Lachlan was head of Renewable Energy Industry Development & Investments in the ACT Government’s 100% renewables by 2020 program, leveraging the Territory’s 640+ MW of renewable energy reverse auctions to secure over $600 million in local investment, developing the Territory’s Renewable Energy Industry Development Strategy, and establishing the $12 million Renewable Energy Innovation Fund, a Renewable Energy Hub co-working space, the $25 million Next Generation Energy Storage Grants program, and the $8 million Battery Storage Research program at the Australian National University. Underpinning his background, Lachlan holds degrees in engineering, law, business and finance from Cambridge University, Melbourne University, the Australian National University, and Harvard Business School.
