Bamyan Renewable Energy Project, Afghanistan

ITP Renewables provided due diligence services to a New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) funded project to supply and install 1 MWp of PV in the Bamyan province of Afghanistan.

The project also involved the use of lead-acid batteries for energy storage, and a diesel generator as backup. The existing hydropower scheme at Nayak was refurbished, and a new distribution network was installed for the distribution of electricity from the PV/diesel system. The project also involved revised tariff structures. ITP Renewables’ work included:

  • due diligence on concept design of PV/diesel mini grid in Bamyan province
  • due diligence on detailed design of system and tariff to be charged
  • due diligence on tender specifications for the PV component of the tender.
