The Australian Government’s Department of Social Services (formerly the Department of Families, Housing and Indigenous Affairs) asked ITP Renewables to develop technical specifications, conduct a tender and design review, and commission a hybrid power system on Cape Barren Island, in the Bass Strait north of Tasmania. The hybrid power system consists of two 20 kW of wind turbines, 3 kW of PV capacity, two diesel generators of 110 kW and 87 kW, and 163 kWh of battery capacity. Our hybrid systems experts found several design and installation flaws during review which were addressed, and the system is now performing well. The work included:

  • Commissioning of an installed PV/wind/diesel hybrid system
  • Due diligence on the quality of design and installation.
