CIT PV & BESS Microgrid

ITP Renewables was engaged by Shape Group in 2018 to design, specify, and supervise the installation of an embedded microgrid at the Canberra Institute of Technology’s (CIT) Bruce Campus.

The microgrid is powered by PV and lithium-ion battery energy storage, with the existing grid-connection acting as the backup power supply. This innovative project will not only power the Sustainable Skills Training Hub, it has been designed as a key platform for CIT student training, with configurable system control. The PV capacity includes both ground and roof-mounted arrays. The storage system is containerised and utilises industrial-scale lithium-ion battery racks, co-located with ITP’s Battery Test Centre.
