Mini-grid Hybrid Systems in the Pacific
Feasibility, System Design & Tender Specifications
ITP Renewables was commissioned by the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to assist with developing priority energy sector projects identified during the Pacific Energy Development Acceleration Program further to tender stage by undertaking feasibility studies, design and tender specifications for hybrid mini-grid systems in the outer islands of the Cook Islands and Tuvalu.
The project encompassed island mini-grid hybrid system design, grid-connected renewable energy design; tendering and procurement support; and an energy options study for Kiritimati. This included detailed design and tender specifications of stand-alone solar hybrid mini-grid systems for four outer islands in Tuvalu and four outer islands (southern group) in the Cook Islands, each with the aim of achieving 90% solar energy supply, with diesel only occasionally used as backup.
