Least Cost Plan for the Kiribati Electricity Sector

ITP Renewables was engaged by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) to develop a Least Cost Plan (LCP) to assist the Pacific Island nation of Kiribati reduce reliance on fossil fuels by 45% by 2025.

The LCP, delivered in 2018, identifies a pipeline of investment options to assist the nation reach least cost electricity generation and network development. The project includes building capacity and training of staff at the Kiribati Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy and Kiribati Public Utilities Board on the responsible for the operation and maintenance of many of the proposed activities in the LCP, in the ongoing use of the LCP and its associated tools.
