ITP Renewables was engaged in 2018 along with associates Castalia and Ener-g Group to assess technical problems with the diesel power station in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), and to recommend upgrades to improve reliability and efficiency.
Pohnpei suffered from frequent power outages due to technical problems with the power station. At the same time, new renewable energy projects were being added to the network. The Government of the FSM identified an urgent need to improve power reliability and efficiency for the residents of Pohnpei.
The major outcome of this project was a plan for a new diesel power station for Pohnpei incorporating efficient generators, a modern control and communications system, and the ability to integrate with new renewable energy projects. The project also included recommendations for reliability planning and process improvements for the utility.
