ITP Renewables was contracted by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in 2016 for services included design, progress inspections, technical oversight, commissioning inspection, testing and defects report. As part of the MFAT energy sector programs, ITP Renewables completed a 1 MW grid-connected PV system at Rarotonga Airport. The system was specially designed to avoid glare issues at the airport and to be below the maximum height restrictions of the site. The system was connected to the Rarotonga grid via a 22kV transformer at the site. The project will provide significant savings in diesel fuel use for the local utility, Te Aponga Uira (TAU).
