In 2018, ITP was hired by Dexus, a real estate investment company that owns and manages commercial properties across Australia, to provide it with options for reducing the amount of electricity or gas used for water heating at its Garema Place building in Canberra. ITP assessed the condition of the existing gas boilers, the available roof space, and the gas consumption profile used for water heating throughout the year. Three options were compared: replacing the gas boilers with newer units, replacing them with gas-boosted solar water heating, and replacing them with PV-offset electric heat pumps (running alongside the existing 45 kW PV array on the roof of the building).
