Renewable Energy Integration Study

Norfolk Island

BoM Site 2.JPG

The Government of Norfolk Island is interested in installing renewable energy generation systems to offset the amount of diesel used for power generation, and commissioned a feasibility study. ITP Renewables investigated several wind and solar technologies, taking into consideration their suitability in a remote island situation. ITP Renewables submitted a shortlist of potential technologies for consideration, and recommended the large-scale integration of wind and concentrating PV on the diesel grid, with flywheel storage to maintain good power quality. The work included:

  • feasibility study investigating the limits of renewable energy penetration into Norfolk Island’s diesel grid
  • recommendation of the most appropriate technologies for reducing reliance on diesel for power generation while maintaining power quality and reliability.
