In 2016 ITP Renewables reviewed the configuration and operational practices of Tonga Power Ltd’s diesel power station on Tongatapu, Tonga. The Popua Power Station provides the vast majority of Tongatapu’s electricity, through the use of large diesel engines and a large PV array with capacitor storage. With the prospect of further development of renewable energy generation on the island, Tonga Power Ltd engaged ITP Renewables to provide a review of its power station operations.

ITP recommended measures to improve the efficiency and reliability of its diesel operations to reduce operating costs. The measures also included steps and recommended equipment to more easily integrate variable renewable energy generation.
