Tonga Electricity Network Study

For this project ITP Renewables developed a least-cost generation and associated network development plan for the period of five years (2015 through 2020) with renewable energy plants scheduled to achieve a 50% reduction in imported fuel for electric generation plus a guiding strategy/plan for system development over an additional 10 years (through 2030). The training of counterpart TPL staff and the provision of planning tools and instructions so that the plan may be updated by TPL will be a critically important outcome of the study. It includes:

• A literature review of reports produced by various parties relating to the provision of electrical services in Tonga.
• Approaches to overcome electricity project development barriers due to commercial and regulatory issues.
• A set of detailed feasibility studies.
• Recommendations for achieving the objectives of the Tonga Energy Road Map.
