In November 2013 ITP Renewables was commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to analyse the feasibility of installing a grid-connected PV system on the grounds of the Vanuatu Meteorological and Geo-hazards Department (VMGD) building in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The VMGD is responsible for monitoring local and regional weather events, issuing forecasts, and recording seismic activity and any associated sea level changes. The study involved:

  • multiple site visits to monitor energy usage and gather information for locating, sizing and performance modelling of the PV array
  • providing GIZ with detailed costings and technical design specifications for the PV system
  • review of the draft Power Purchase Agreement proposed by the local electricity provider, UNELCO.
