ITP Renewables was engaged in 2018 by the World Bank to act as Owner’s Engineer for the design, specification and procurement of a major energy project in the Marshall Islands.
The project includes approximately 3.5 MW of solar PV, upgrades to the diesel power plant and also adds battery storage to enable more renewable energy. A key challenge for this project is availability of land, so the analysis of sites for the solar PV systems focusses on rooftop sites and the main water reservoirs. A large portion of the allocated solar PV will be installed as a floating system on the reservoirs. The project also includes analysis of required battery capacity and network aspects to enable integration of the 3.5 MW of solar PV.
