Tokelau Returns to 100% Renewable Energy

In November 2019, online news reporter One-Step-Off-the-Grid published an article by Matthew O’Regan, Project Engineer at ITP Renewables. The article highlights our proud history working in the Pacific on projects to achieve policy goals, lower the cost of electrical generation and increase the nation’s energy independence and resiliency. For eight years Tokelau enjoyed near 100% renewable energy however increasing demand and the gradual decrease in battery capacity has left the systems unable to fulfil their initial role of contributing nearly all of Tokelau’s electrical energy needs. In this article, Matthew highlights technical assistance by ITP in terms of design, installation and training, to return Tokelau to ~100% renewable energy.
