Drew Thompson

Graduate Engineer

Sydney, Australia

Drew is an engineer who joined ITP in February 2023. He has a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) majoring in Renewable Energy, and a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing, both from the University of New South Wales. His honours thesis examined the economics of solar-hydrogen and wind-hydrogen systems in South Australia, in terms of both levelised cost of energy and levelised cost of hydrogen. The thesis investigated both hydrogen production from renewable energy that would otherwise have been curtailed, and hydrogen production from dedicated renewable energy generation.

He has experience in HOMER, Helioscope, and Windographer software platforms, as well utilising Python to access and clean NEM market data. Previously he has worked in asset management for large-scale solar farms throughout QLD, NSW and VIC, analysing performance and losses through SCADA. He has also worked on commercial PV design, cost estimation, and feasibility for roof-mount, ground-mount, and BESS-integrated systems ranging from 10kW-5MW. This included load analysis, PV design and simulation, and pricing under both capex and power purchase agreement.
