In the Strategy and Analytics team at ITP, Joel provides advanced renewable energy and electricity network modelling to a wide range of government and private clients. He is a senior developer and analyst for the openCEM electricity network model, advanced microgrid models, battery and PV portfolio optimisation models, and web applications for government compliance inspection programs.

Bringing analytical, research, communications, and software expertise, Joel has worked on many bespoke analytics projects for clients at ITP, focusing on delivering advice on optimum PV and battery systems, optimising the design of electricity networks, and decision-making for future electricity network infrastructure investments and policies, in remote areas and at the national scale.

Joel has a keen interest in process automation, and appropriate use of machine learning and AI. He has worked a lot with ReactJS, Gatsby, Django, Tensorflow, Pyomo, Plotly, and many AWS and Google cloud services, leveraging storage, containerisation, and parallel processing for running and interpreting intensive, full electricity market simulations. Joel bridges the theoretical and practical by providing tangible insights through clear communication, interactive analytics, and user interface design.

He holds Bachelor's Degrees in Engineering (Mechanical and Material Systems) and Arts (Environmental Studies and Philosophy) from the Australian National University. His honours thesis was focused on developing a thermal model for residential homes.
