Value streams assessed included PV self-consumption, retail tariff arbitrage, peak demand charge reduction, wholesale energy market arbitrage, demand response, Frequency Control & Ancillary Services, and distribution network support. ITP then assessed lead-carbon, vanadium-redox flow, and lithium-ion battery technologies, before one technology was recommended for the project on the basis of the feasible value streams. Finally, ITP developed a bespoke large-scale linear program to simulate and optimise the BESS capacity/dispatching for each half hour of a 15 year analysis period, and return key financial statistics to summarise the business case.
