In 2018 ITP Renewables undertook a feasibility study for a microgrid at the Kawana Sports Precinct in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, for the Sunshine Coast Council. The Kawana Sports Precinct is a large multi-use facility, including several ovals and a grandstand. Loads are mostly lighting for filed usage in the evening, although the grandstand also uses electricity throughout the day. ITP provided options to the Sunshine Coast Council on the feasibility of a microgrid using PV and batteries to reduce reliance on grid electricity. The report included PV and battery sizing options, lifecycle cost estimates, and recommendations on next steps for implementation.
