Fiji has made commitments to reach near 100% renewable energy electricity under its Green Growth Framework (2014). In support of this goal, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is assisting the local government with feasibility studies for transitioning the islands of Ovalau and Taveuni to 100% renewable energy generation. This feasibility study investigated options for Ovalau island with the goal or reaching approximately 50% renewable energy. The project includes technical feasibility assessment, network modelling, site selection, techno-economic optimisation and analysis in HOMER Pro, environmental and social impact assessments, financial analysis, identification of financing options, and production of technical specifications for the recommended project.
