The World Bank is financing power sector upgrades in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia. This component covers an upgrade of the Pohnpei Power Station, which is ageing and in need of modernisation. Pohnpei experienced frequent power outages caused by both mechanical and electrical problems at the power station.

ITP was engaged as Owner’s Engineer for the power station redevelopment. The project includes all assessment and design services for the project, including assessment of the current system, followed by design and specification of all components of the power station upgrade including gensets, new switchgear, building refurbishment, new control system and new waste oil management system. The design also accounted for the need to integrate new renewable energy and storage systems into the power system in the near future.
